Lake Improvement Board of Bear Lake
March 6, 2008 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Jack Sawka at 7:00pm. Members of the board present were Don Brisbin, Bob Yates, and Carver Edwards and Jack Sawka via telephone. Those of the board absent were Ken Berentsen and Allen O'Shea. There were signed in guests.

Bob Yates opened the meeting for public comment. Only one guest had comments on how his condo association was being assessed.

Minutes from February 21st and 28th were read and approved.

Comments were made about municipalities contributing more money, the assessment of condo associations and expanding the parcels assessed beyond those the abut the lake or have lake access.

There was discussion about how many parcels are being assessed. Board agreed not to assess beyond riparians.

The board discussed and had no disagreement that corrections to the assessment roll should be made for assessed units to conform to the methodology. The board also had no disagreement that name and address corrections could be made for parcels when the corrections would conform to the Manistee records.

Board agreed not to change addresses or names on assessment rolls of those individuals that had notified the board of errors but the correction would not conform to the Manistee records. The board will ask those individuals to contact their township to correct their rolls.

Jack Sawka agreed to contact the attorney in regard to the assessment of the condos. Three new letters of protest or concern regarding the assessment were read. All letters were received after the hearing on the assessment roll. Jack Sawka also agreed to discuss the issues raised by these letters with the attorney.

Jack Sawka emailed a request to be put on the agenda for the next Manistee County Commission Meeting to apply for a revolving loan from Manistee County.

Once again the board supported Don Shreve, Bear Lake Township Treasurer, to handle the collecting and disbursing of funds for the LIB.

Next meeting of the LIB will be March 13th, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Bear Lake Township Hall.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm.
