October 12, 2005
The Regular Meeting of the Bear Lake Village Council was called to order by President Glen Moore at 7:35 p.m. at the Bear Lake Village Hall.
Council Present: Connie Guerne, Ricke Guerne, Howard Higley, Robert Howe, Don Hyrns, Glen Moore, Michelle Mortenson, Ron Ronning.
Absent: Vern Best and Carol Urbanus.
Guests: Jim and Polly Ludwig.
Minutes: The September minutes were approved with corrections.
Treasurer's Report: Motion by Ron seconded by Don to accept the Treasurer's Report as read. Motion carried.

Bills: Motion by Robert seconded by Ricke to pay the bills as presented. Motion carried.
Business Letters: Motion by Ron seconded by Don to send letters to local businesses regarding snow removal and requests to have address numbers easily visible on their buildings. Motion carried.
Guests: Jim & Polly Ludwig addresses the issue of snow along the sidewalks. The council will send out letters requesting businesses to do their best in keeping an open passageway along the entire downtown sidewalk.
Trees: 14 new trees were planted in the Village. One by maintenance man Howard Higley and 13 by the 4th, 5th & 6th grade students at Bear Lake School. Motion by Ron seconded by Ricke to have Thompson Tree Removal take down a tree by Mrs. Johnson's home for $700.00. Motion carried.
Bear Lake School: Motion by Ron seconded by Robert to send a letter to Bear Lake School approving their parking lot paving plans submitted as long as they meet the requirements of the State and DEQ. Motion carried.
Drains: Motion by Don seconded by Robert to have McBride Septic Systems fix the drain on Cody Street. Motion carried.
Equipment: Motion by Ron seconded by Ricke to purchase a 24 ft ladder from Bear Lake Hardware for $225. Motion carried.
Pay Increase: Motion by Ron seconded by Robert to increase the clerk and treasurer's monthly pay by 30%. Motion carried.
Budget: Motion by Ricke seconded by Ron to transfer $15,000 from the General Fund to the Building Fund. Motion carried.
Discussions Held On:
- Changes to Contingency Plan tabled until next meeting.
- Thank you letters were sent to Mr. Harthun, Mrs. Bowman and Mrs. Peters and the students at Bear Lake School for their help in planting the new trees. Pictures will be posted on the website and will also be sent to the Manistee News Advocate.
- Letters will be sent to two local residents regarding complaints about their dogs.
- Bill Timmons offered the Village first option to buy a piece of his property. No interest was expressed at this time.
