September 19, 2007
The Regular Meeting of the Bear Lake Village Council was called to order by President Glen Moore at 7:32 p.m. at the Bear Lake Village Hall.
Council Present: Carver Edwards, Howard Higley, Don Hyrns, Jim Mlejnek, Larry Mortenson, Michelle Mortenson, Ron Ronning and Glen Moore.
Absent: Alice Howe and Bill Howe.
Guests: Damian Currey (Wade Trim Representative), Pauline Jaquish, Judy Kuhn and Scott DeRidder
Minutes: The August 2007 minutes were approved as presented.
Treasurer¹s Report:
Building Fund $6,042.15
Equipment Fund $20,962.77

Motion by Carver seconded by Ron to accept the treasurer¹s report as presented. Motion carried.
Bills: Motion by Ron seconded by Larry to pay the bills as presented. Motion carried.
Guest: Pauline Jaquish, representing the Bear Lake Promoters thanked the Village for their continued support of Sparkle in the Park which is set to open November 18th. She also addressed a couple of concerns regarding the entrance to the park which we will make an effort to open the area up a little more for easier accessibility. She also requested permission to decorate the deck and apply wrap to the pavilion to keep the wind down. The Promoters are once again having a residential and commercial lighting contest and encourage community members to participate.
Motion by Ron seconded by Don to allow the Bear Lake Promoters to apply wrap to the pavilion and decorate the deck for Sparkle in the Park. Motion carried.
Guest: Damian Currey from Wade Trim gave an update on the grant that was approved by the DNR and accepted by Village council. More information will be sent to the Village regarding time lines and more.
Motion by Ron seconded by Don to devise a policy that would include general upkeep or maintenance of donated items. Motion carried.
Motion by Don seconded by Ron to have Thompson¹s remove a tree behind the Village Flower Shop for $1,000. Motion carried.
Discussions Held On:
- Audit is complete.
- Several community members have expressed interest in filling the vacancy for trustee due to the loss of fellow friend and council member Bill Howe. No action was taken.
- The appointment of a new park supervisor was tabled until the next meeting.
- Jim Mlejnek will assume the position of representative for the Joint Planning Committee.
- Street repair will take place in the spring of 2008.
- Repair of the water tower is needed by early spring.
- The lawn tractor will be taken into Lark to see about a repair/replace estimate.
- The Village truck will receive a general overhaul before the winter season begins.
- A skateboard park was briefly discussed with no action taken.
- The Village gratefully accepted a $200 donation to our tree program from Tom Welsh (golf professional from Livonia) who has a friend that resides in Bear Lake during the summer months and wishes to help out our community. His thoughtful gift will used for the planting of various small trees in the Village. Thank you
