Village of Bear Lake

The Regular Meeting of the Bear Lake Village Council was called to order by President Glen Moore at 7:30 p.m. at the Bear Lake Village Hall.

Council Present: Carver Edwards, Howard Higley, Alice Howe, Don Hyrns, Jim Mlejnek, Glen Moore, Larry Mortenson, Michelle Mortenson, Ron Ronning and George Schafer.

Absent: None.

Guests: None.

Minutes: The December 2007 minutes were approved as presented.

Treasurer's Report:

• Building Fund - $6,059.00
• Equipment Fund - $21,027.11
• General Fund - $27,704.27
• Local Street Fund - $22,208.98
• Major Street Fund - $38,002.79
• Park Fund - $25,700.55
• Water Fund - $19,780.09
• Huntington Bank Fund - $78,022.45
• 6-month CD - 50,000.00
• 6-month CD - 30,000.00

Motion by Carver seconded by Don to pay the bills as presented. Motion carried.

Motion by Ron seconded by Carver to sign the contract agreement between the Village of Bear Lake and Manistee County for tax maps, assessment roll maintenance, tax rolls, tax bill and computer services for 2008 at the rate of $1.06 per parcel. Motion carried.

Motion by Don seconded by Jim to allow the Bear Lake Promoters to utilize Hopkins Park for their annual Easter Egg Hunt to be held March 22, 2008. Motion carried.

Discussions Held On:

• Jim will call the Sheriffs department to inquire about snowmobiling rules and/or enforcement of speeding in the Village limits.
• Emergency start directions for the well along with pictures will be placed at the Village Hall in case of emergency.
• A special meeting to discuss the budget will be held on February 13th, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Hall
• The Village Contingency Plan will be updated and put on file.
• The next Lake Improvement Board meeting will be held on February 21, 2008
• Carver Edwards gave an update on the Lake Improvement Board minutes.
• George questioned the possibility of raising the quarterly water rate in an effort to generate money to various repairs in the Village.
